San Diego FC announced Wednesday 1/28 that Paddy McNair has joined Hull City. The Northern Ireland captain has been linked with a move to the EFL side for quite some time now. McNair was left off of the CONCACAF Champions Cup roster that SDFC submitted on Monday. That was the writing on the wall.

According to sources, McNair expressed interest in a move back to England after losing starting minutes to Manu Duah, who seized his opportunity during McNair’s injury spell and eventually made the role his own.

An important fact to mention about the transaction is that SDFC retained a sell-on percentage. This means that if McNair is sold by Hull City in the future, SDFC will get a percentage of the sale.

McNair, 30, signed with SDFC as a free agent on July 25, 2024, ahead of the club’s inaugural season and featured in the historic starting XI for the 2–0 MLS debut victory over LA Galaxy on Feb. 23. He made 25 appearances across all competitions, starting 21 matches and recording one assist, including two appearances during the 2025 playoffs.
