San Diego FC (SDFC) announced today that Technical Director Kenneth Heiner-Møller will depart the Club this summer to join Canada Soccer Association as its new Sporting Director.

Kenneth Heiner-Møller’s departure marks the end of a foundational chapter for San Diego FC, as he was one of the key figures involved in shaping the club before it ever took the field.

Since arriving in late 2024, Heiner-Møller helped lay the groundwork for how SDFC would operate on the soccer side, playing a major role in building the club’s identity ahead of its inaugural MLS season. He influenced the structure, vision, and long-term planning of the club.

As Technical Director, Heiner-Møller was deeply involved in defining San Diego FC’s playing philosophy and ensuring it was consistently applied throughout the organization. He worked closely with both the first team and the academy, helping connect youth development with the senior squad so that players could progress within a unified system. That alignment was critical for a new club aiming to establish stability and a clear pathway from development to professional competition.

Heiner-Møller also collaborated closely with Sporting Director Tyler Heaps to synchronize coaching methods, style of play, and overall football strategy. Together, they ensured that San Diego FC’s approach reflected the values and principles of the Right to Dream organization, emphasizing player development, cultural identity, and a cohesive footballing vision. While his time with the club was relatively short, his behind-the-scenes contributions helped set the technical standards and framework that SDFC will continue to build upon moving forward.

“Kenneth has made a meaningful impact on our Club in a relatively short period of time,” said Heaps. “His experience, leadership, and clarity have helped lay important groundwork for who we want to be as a football Club. We are grateful for his contributions to SDFC and wish him and his family nothing but success as he takes on this exciting new role with Canada Soccer.”

Certainly, seen as a promotion in career development, Heiner-Møller will head up the Canada Soccer Association as the new Sporting Director, which will allow him to work closely with the team ahead of the World Cup. SDFC will begin a search for a new Technical Director during this transition to ensure continuity in the Club’s technical vision and long-term strategy.
