San Diego Wave FC made a pair of roster moves Friday, trading midfielder Savannah McCaskill while retaining defender Nya Harrison on a new contract.
The Wave sent McCaskill to Gotham FC in exchange for $175,000 in allocation funds, parting ways with the veteran midfielder after two seasons in San Diego. McCaskill joined the club ahead of the 2024 campaign and provided experience and depth during a period of significant transition for the roster.
The move creates additional financial flexibility for the Wave as they continue to retool ahead of the 2026 season, with several key decisions already shaping the club’s offseason direction.
Later in the day, San Diego announced it had re-signed defender Nya Harrison to a one-year contract through 2026. A San Diego native, Harrison remains with her hometown club after completing her rookie professional season in 2025.
Harrison, who joined the Wave out of Stanford, spent much of last year developing within the first-team environment while making her professional debut and contributing as part of the club’s World Sevens Football championship squad. Her return adds continuity and depth to the defensive group as the Wave prepare for training camp in the weeks ahead.
Together, the two moves reflect a balance between turnover and continuity as San Diego continues to shape its roster for the next phase of the club’s rebuild.
