San Diego Wave FC have added a young defender with a championship pedigree, signing Mimi Van Zanten ahead of the 2026 season.
The Wave announced Monday that Van Zanten has joined the club on a two-year contract through 2027, with options that could extend the deal through 2029. The 20-year-old arrives after a standout collegiate career at Florida State, where she developed into a reliable two-way presence on the back line.
Van Zanten spent three seasons with the Seminoles and played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history. She was part of two national championship teams and consistently featured as a starter during deep postseason runs, contributing both defensively and in the attack. Her versatility and comfort pushing forward helped define her collegiate profile.
On the international stage, Van Zanten has gained experience at both the youth and senior levels. She has represented the United States through multiple youth age groups and has also earned caps with Jamaica’s senior national team, giving her early exposure to the demands of the international game.
Van Zanten becomes the first player the Wave have officially announced this offseason, signaling the beginning of a busy winter as San Diego looks to add depth and build toward the next phase of its roster evolution.
