San Diego FC is keeping stability in goal.

The club announced Thursday that goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega has signed a contract extension that keeps him in San Diego through June 2027, with a club option for the 2027-28 season.

For SDFC, this move is about continuity and trust.

Sisniega has quietly become an important figure both in the locker room and on the field. Sporting Director Tyler Heaps praised not only his performances in big moments, but also his leadership and daily commitment to raising standards within the goalkeeping group.

“Pablo has been a key player for us on and off  the field and we’re happy to extend him and keep him and his family in San Diego,” said SDFC Sporting Director Tyler Heaps. “He has demonstrated that he can perform in big moments and is an important piece of our goalkeeping group, exemplifying strong leadership and pushing the standards of the group every day.”

Since joining SDFC ahead of the inaugural 2025 season, Sisniega has delivered when called upon. He made his club debut in a 2-1 road win over the Chicago Fire last July and went on to appear in 12 matches across all competitions last season, recording four clean sheets.

But it was in the playoffs where his impact truly stood out.

In Game Two of the First Round series against the Portland Timbers, Sisniega entered in the 29th minute after an injury to CJ Dos Santos. After a 2-2 draw forced a penalty shootout, Sisniega came up clutch — saving three penalties to help send San Diego through. He would go on to make four postseason appearances, keeping two clean sheets during the club’s run to the Western Conference Final.

This year, he’s already made his mark again.

Sisniega started both matches in SDFC’s 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup opening round and was instrumental in the second leg against Pumas UNAM, making eight saves on the road to secure advancement to the Round of 16.

Overall, he has made 14 appearances for San Diego across all competitions, continuing to prove he’s ready whenever his number is called.

At 30 years old, Sisniega brings experience, composure, and reliability — and now, he’ll continue doing so in San Diego for the foreseeable future.

With Duran Ferree turning heads after his performance against CF Montreal last weekend and CJ Dos Santos nearing a return to full health, the competition in goal is only going to intensify. What once looked settled now feels wide open, and that’s not a bad problem to have. Sisniega has proven he can step up in big moments, Ferree is pushing hard with confidence and upside, and Dos Santos brings reliability when fit.

For the coaching staff, it creates a true week-to-week decision based on form, fitness, and the demands of each opponent. For the team, it raises the standard.

For fans, it’s another important piece of the foundation staying in place.
