Latest SDFC Transfer Rumors

A look at the latest transfer rumors surrounding SDFC

Table of Contents

Monday, January 5th. Most folks are coming back to work after taking time off to spend Christmas break with loved ones. Scrolling through emails and trying to catch up on everything they've missed while away.

Those in the San Diego FC front office don't have that luxury.

General manager Tyler Heaps & co. have been working non-stop trying to figure out the roster for the 2026 season. With the MLS draft now complete, management made a few signings along the way, bringing in Wilson Eisner, Kieran Sargent, and Lewis Morgan.

As January marks the beginning of the European transfer market, MLS clubs are right in the mix. With many additional games to be played this year compared to last, SDFC need to ensure the roster is deep with players who are able to step into a starting role and deliver.

Behold - transfer rumors. Always the fun (or not so fun) part of the off-season. Let's take a look at the latest.

Osvald Gabriel Søe

The SDFC scouts assigned to the Denmark region have done their job and found a diamond in the rough. Enter Osvald Søe. A 20-year-old Danish center back from B.93, a Danish 1st division club.

Søe, if signed, provides depth at the center back position. In the last season, he started all 16 matches, scoring one goal from the center back position. Standing 6'1, Søe excels at winning aerial duels. An aggressive-style defender, he never shies away from a challenge, winning nearly 60% of duels. He's an excellent shot-blocker with great stamina, something that SDFC sees as a potential pathway to a permanent roster spot.

Perhaps where Søe really excels is his passing abilities. With a 89% passing accuracy, the Danish CB fits perfectly into the Right to Dream style that SDFC plays. If signed, the club would like to see Søe grow within the system and eventually make a case for a starting CB role.

The Søe news comes during a time when rumors are circulating linking Paddy McNair with a potential move to EFL side Oxford United. The Northern Ireland captain has fallen out of the starting lineup following his return from injury, with Manu Duah stepping in and seizing the opportunity. Duah’s performances proved convincing enough that head coach Mikey Varas opted to keep him in the starting role, a decision that has left McNair on the outside looking in.

Erick Gutierrez

As reported by multiple Mexican news outlets, San Diego FC have been exploring a possible move to acquire Chivas center midfielder, Erick "Guti" Gutierrez.

In an apparent disagreement between club and player, Guti is looking at other opportunities. He was captured saying "We aren't leaving, we are being forced out" in Spanish on an Instagram post from Chivas saying goodbye to ex player Alan Momios.

Guti and Hirving Lozano share a long-standing connection. Both being products of Pachuca before later reuniting at PSV Eindhoven, where they played alongside one another. Their chemistry also extended to the international stage, representing the Mexican national team together.

Since his transfer from Chivas in July 2023, Guti made 88 appearances, scoring five times. A successful defensive midfielder, his real strength is defending. Guti is able to be a force in helping out defensively while using his above average vision and passing to create real goal-scoring opportunities.

With the departure of Luca de la Torre, who signed with Charlotte in the off season, SDFC is looking to fill that void with a proven talent - someone like Gutierrez. It remains to be seen where the rumor goes from here but it certainly makes sense for SDFC to be a potential suitor to someone like Guti, who can come in and be a force right away.
