David Vazquez' time at San Diego FC may be coming to an end soon. A report by John Sutcliffe of ESPN, suggests that the Liga MX club has been in strong talks with SDFC for the services of the 20-year-old.
The talks have stalled due to paperwork issues that do not allow Vazquez to play in Mexico until January 2027. Vazquez was available off the bench for the match in Colorado on Wednesday but was not used.
In 2025, SDFC's hottest striker, Milan Iloski was seeking opportunities elsewhere after failing to reach a contract extension agreement with SDFC and was not used in matches by head coach Mikey Varas.
Vazquez has emerged as a valuable piece in the SDFC system. After being acquired from Philadelphia Union for only $250,000 GAM, Vazquez tallied three goals while playing in 18 MLS matches. His flair and creativity in front of goal is surely what drew interest from the Liga MX giants.
It remains to be seen whether the paperwork issue that won't see Vazquez in Mexico until January 2027 will be a dealbreaker in what is surely seen as a positive step in the young 20-year-old Mexican-American's career.
