San Diego FC announced today that forward Tomás Ángel has completed a transfer to Colombian club América de Cali, marking the end of his time in San Diego. Ángel has been linked with the club for some time now, finally putting some truth to the rumors.

It's been tough to find playing time for Ángel in San Diego. After losing his starting spot, he never really found his way back into it. Ángel spent most of the tail end of last season with the reserves.

Ángel arrived ahead of SDFC’s inaugural 2025 MLS season after being acquired in a trade with LAFC on Dec. 9, 2024. While his minutes were often off the bench, he delivered one of the first defining moments in club history. Making his debut on Feb. 23, 2025, against the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park, Ángel entered in the 88th minute and just moments later assisted Anders Dreyer’s stoppage-time goal to seal SDFC’s 2–0 victory in its MLS debut.

The 23-year-old went on to make 25 appearances across all competitions, earning 12 starts while tallying four goals and two assists. He also featured in three Leagues Cup matches in 2025, including an appearance against Club Tigres UANL on Aug. 2.

Ángel leaves having played a role in the club’s first chapter, highlighted by a contribution that will remain part of SDFC’s early history.
