Friday January 9, 2026 - San Diego FC signed Osvald Søe from Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93). His contract is guaranteed through the 2027-28 season with club options for the 2028-29 and 2029-30 seasons.

The move confirms rumors that surfaced earlier this week. San Diego FC announced early January that the club parted ways with Heine Bruseth, opening up a U-22 roster spot and fueling speculation that the signing of Søe was only a matter of time.

Søe is a big 6'2, 187lb 20-year-old defender who uses his body to gain an advantage on opponents. He combines physicality with smart movement and has a knack for getting forward in the box, often outjumping opponents thanks to his impressive leaping ability.

By signing Søe, SDFC is further investing in broadening their defensive depth. Lessons were learned last year when fans saw many defenders out with injuries. Now that SDFC is poised to play many more games across multiple competitions in 2026, defensive depth (and health) will be of utmost importance.

During Friday's press conference, head coach Mikey Varas answered SDFC Nation's question on what a successful offseason looks like for a young player trying to make a roster spot. "The most important thing they can show is their learning ability."

SDFC Sporting Director Tyler Heaps, praised the young defender ahead of his arrival in America's Finest City.

"Osvald is a high potential defender we’ve been tracking closely that has already gained significant experience for his age,” said Heaps. “He shows characteristics we value with and without the ball and plays with a level of maturity beyond his years. We believe he has the potential to continue developing at a high level here in San Diego, and we’re excited to welcome him to the Club."

Søe arrives at San Diego FC after two productive seasons with B.93, where he made 53 appearances, including 38 starts, and scored twice across all competitions.

A Copenhagen native, he developed in the youth systems of FC Copenhagen and SfB-Oure FA before joining B.93’s academy in 2021, eventually working his way onto the senior team, signing his first professional contract in July 2023. He has also represented Denmark at the U-19 level, earning four international caps.

Pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and receipt of his P1 Visa, Søe will join the roster as soon as possible. Hopefully it's sooner than later as San Diego FC play their first competitive match on February 3rd against Pumas in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
