With San Diego Wave FC head coach Jonas Eidevall serving a one match suspension following his red card against Bay FC last weekend, assistant coach Becki Tweed is expected to step into a leading role on the sidelines when the Wave face Angel City FC on Friday night at BMO Stadium.
Eidevall was sent off late in San Diego’s 1-0 loss to Bay FC after reacting to a stoppage in play during a Wave attack. The suspension means San Diego will temporarily turn to one of the most experienced assistants on its coaching staff in Tweed.

While many Wave fans are still getting to know her, Tweed arrived in San Diego ahead of the 2025 season with an extensive background in the NWSL. The English coach previously spent two seasons with Angel City, serving as assistant coach, interim head coach, and eventually permanent head coach. During the second half of the 2023 season, Tweed guided Angel City on an 11 match unbeaten run that carried the club to its first playoff appearance in franchise history.
Before her time in Los Angeles, Tweed spent several seasons with NJ/NY Gotham FC, working in multiple coaching roles while also helping develop the club’s reserve side. She has also worked with the United States women's national under-20 soccer team and was part of the staff during international tournaments including the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Tweed’s experience also extends to her playing career. A former midfielder, she spent time in England’s FA Women’s Premier League with Bristol City W.F.C. and Millwall Lionesses F.C. before continuing her career in the United States.

San Diego brought Tweed onto Eidevall’s staff in January 2025, adding a coach with both NWSL head coaching experience and familiarity with Friday’s opponent. Now, with the Wave looking to snap a two game losing streak, Tweed could play an important role in helping guide the club through a difficult road matchup against her former team.
