The San Diego Wave FC spent Monday giving back to the community, partnering with the San Diego Public Library to launch a limited-edition team-branded library card during National Library Week.

Wave players visited the Mira Mesa Library for a community story time and autograph session, connecting with young readers and families while helping spotlight one of San Diego’s most valuable public resources.

The limited-edition card is now available at all 37 San Diego Public Library locations and will be offered while supplies last for residents who sign up for a free library account. Existing cardholders can also request the special edition card for a $1 replacement fee while supplies remain.

For goalkeeper Didi Haracic, the event was about inspiring the next generation.

“It’s an honor, one, to be in front of little kids and continuing to inspire them,” Haracic said. “And it’s always fun to get out and put a smile on their face.”

She also enjoyed the energy children brought to the event.

“I think I’ve noticed that kids are the most curious beings, so honestly, whatever they throw at me, I think it’s hilarious and it just shows that they’re bright spirits.”

Defender Trinity Armstrong said the afternoon felt meaningful on a personal level.

“It’s so good to give back to the younger community and that they’re able to have this library and have the community and for people to be a part of it as well,” Armstrong said. “I remember when I was younger and wanted to know more about soccer, so it’s kind of like a full circle moment.”

Armstrong also emphasized the importance of reading in a world dominated by screens.

“Reading is super crucial in development,” she said. “With the world of technology, it’s really good to get away, and books is a really good way to do that.”

The collaboration also served as a reminder that San Diego Public Library offers far more than bookshelves. Cardholders can access e-books, audiobooks, free Wi-Fi, public computers, streaming services such as Kanopy, museum and attraction passes, educational databases, maker spaces, literacy programs, and more throughout the citywide system.

That reach makes the partnership a natural fit for a club that has consistently emphasized community presence since entering the NWSL.

Monday’s event was simple in concept but impactful in practice: local athletes encouraging children to read, ask questions, and take advantage of free public resources that can shape futures.

For the Wave, it was another example of using the club’s platform beyond matchday. For families across San Diego, it was an invitation to discover everything a library card can unlock.
